Yup, way off my well worn path. Made a trip to Boston this week on Amtrak and caught this image of the W somewhere out in Astoria, Queens. Clear and cold. Must have about 9 degrees this morning.

That's a very nice picture!
I'm sure people ask you this all the time, but is there any way to get this in wallpaper format?
Greetings from London!
Gosh, what a city! Love your photos, Travis.
Sorry, Images are not available for desktop wallpaper.
Did you happen to ride the T in boston and make some images?
only by accident. But no I didn't make any photos. I spent most of the time talking to some nice guy who was trying to help me get to where I was going. The train I was on was really dirty and stinky. Made me proud of my trusty old F Train.
good to see you above ground once again...
your photos are so gorgeous... all of them!
Travis ... I have just shoved a piece of white card over the bottom quarter of your shot ... I reckon that skyline and the sky makes a great shot without the foreground interferring .. What do you think?
Richard, How far up did you bring the card? I'm perplexed by the smoke from the factory (or steam or whatever it is) when I don't have the foreground, and there's got to be a delicate line, I think...I also really like the contrasting orange and the street and rails in the foreground, but I agree, it's a surprising change and a nice one, too. Definitely does make a great shot, but I think I like this one better.
The T certainly makes the MTA look clean and efficient (though the stations are generally better maintained.) They also prohibit photography and strictly enforce this... you have to apply for a press pass.
I love the colors on the station, they really make the shot and contrast with the blues in the skyline. The tagged industrial building also makes a nice contrast with the office buildings in the skyline.
The steam coming off the power plant means one thing - it's colder than you want to know.
travis, i lived in new york for a year, a lot of the original excitement about the city left after a couple of months. but one thing that still excites me when i see new york from further away, when i see manhattan from the outer boroughs or when arriving from the airport is the surreality of the city. how it looks. looks like a model, like many tiny buildings built for kids to play with...
A photo like this makes me wonder how a place like NYC even exists. It really appears to go on forever. With the foreground intact you're not just looking at a distant city, you're still in that distant city. "Crazy!" says a midwesterner.
Wow this pic is gorgeous! I'm at a lost for words. Sometimes I forget how beatiful this city is, especially with this cold weather. Thanks for reminding me of this city's beauty.
