Standing next to me was this woman that I'm sure was covered head to toe in ink. She was wearing a no-sleeves tee, so you could see that she had two full arms of tattoos and they were creeping out of her shirt collar. It was incredible work! But as I looked I didn't really get the point of her collection. As art it was stunning! But beyond that, I don't know. Standing 6 feet behind her was this other woman with her man dangling on her shoulder and nibbling on her neck. All we were permitted to see was this one little tattoo. I made only one picture in that car.

That broken heart should be good for a lifetime!
Very good capture - one little tatoo on a very tatooed woman.
Going to New York wednesday, any photo shows one should check out?
There is so much info on NY, thats why I ask...
Fan from Denmark

Travis, since I am a photoblogger and NYC subway commuter I have a special appreciation for your work. I haven't found the courage or energy to get my D70 out during my commute and even if I did I'd feel like I'm encrouching on your "territory". You capture the mood and feeling of what goes on "down there" so well. I am a big fan. Keep up the good work.
I like your photos.
I hope you will go on for a long time.
PS : Sorry for my english (i am french) ...
Bob, get your camera out and go take pictures in the subway. Every time I look at Bruce Davidson's photos I wonder why I even bother. Everything has been photographed before (and in the subway's case million of times before.) so it's up to the individual to find his/her voice on the subject. So that leaves lots of room to explore and document your own personal experience. best of luck-T
Travis , every day I must come to your site and look at your pictures and every day they make me smile and feel good. As Subway- fotografer from Berlin Germany it feels good not to be alone.Yesterday we had bomb alert at my home station Alexanderplatz. Keep on going Travis and good luck to all subway users around the world and especialy for you. Connie. (it will take me about 2 more weeks to work on my website.)
Beautiful atmosphere. Like it very much.
I am a fan of this shot. :) good spotting.
Did you ask this woman before you took her photograph? I still haven't gotten very good at doing that. Usually I'm too intimidated, which is why most of my photos are of buildings or landscapes or other still life. I don't ride the train much, but walking through Brooklyn neighborhoods gives me a million opportunities to take great pictures of people - if I had the gumption to talk to them about it.
