This reminds me of the station at 75Ave at Queens Blvd on the F line. There a number of stations with wide open expanses underground with nothing in them as if they are waiting for a carnival or something to open up bringing the space to life.
In this shot you wonder why that particular space was fenced off and what was in that spot previously.
Many of the comments on this site compliment Travis on the artistry of his shots. My own reactions, not being a photographer, are more on the line of his capturing part of my life where I live for almost two hours every day and reminding me of the "life" that exists under the streets that most folks don't even know about.

Eric,
There is a lot of life at that station. The middle is a turnstile repair shop. However the perimeter is a loop of about a third of a mile. I am one of those nuts that has to run every day. Sometimes there is too much ice on the ground or the sleet is coming down in sheets…... Nobody has ever complained when I ran 20 or 30 loops of that station.
Checking my handy-dandy MTA map, I see that this stop is in a place called "Park Slope> not far from Greenwood Cemetery?? Myself and others only visit through your photos, MPA maps and our own imaginations.
Hopefully your photos cause people to stop and view their surroundings with different eyes. Eric makes a good point, although lots of photography-types visit here to see his artistry there's a story and a message beyond the medium. This is a very gritty, industrial scene. What effect would the presence of a large number of people have on this space? Warm it up? Humanize it? Soften the sharp edges?

Michael, that is a hilarious story! I would never have thought of running laps here. Makes perfect sense though. Here's a past image from this station, maybe he's one of your fellow lap runners. https://www.travisruse.com/archives/2005/04/7th_ave_f_stati.php
Just goes to show you, you never know half of what's going down here.

Here's the exact spot on Google Maps (remove the return in the middle of the link): http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=9th+st+and+8th+ave+brooklyn&ie=

cool shot - great, somehow muted colors. and it's somehow a bit creepy, though i couldn't say why...
Perfect! The lights take your eye right to the people in the photo. I love it!
