N Train ~ Manhattan Bridge ~ 6:25pm

Please look at the work of Michael Christopher Brown. I just came across his work and find myself spellbound.

I will be one of the presenters at tonights (Thursday 6-22) Brooklyn Blog Fest. 8 p.m. at the Old Stone House: Fifth Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets. THIS EVENT, A CELEBRATION OF BLOGGING BROOKLYN STYLE IS FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC!

  3. wow. this is great!

  4. thoughtful

  5. I wished that these pictures, for instance the previous one "Graffity" would spark more then just praise for the photographer. Instead I want to see someone out there start a discussion on how it is possible that we accept this distruction of our surroundings. Is it art? Yes? No? filth? Yes? No?
I don't know. I wished someone would tell me

  6. I agree Maxwell, and Travis is always happy for those deeper discussions....I, for one, always try to comment on something beyond the photography aspect. What issues might the photo raise? What do we feel about what the image represents? I'll go back to that previous "graffiti" image and post my thoughts now.

Thanks for the nudge for us to engage in a deeper conversation on the images.

  7. if only that guy had a brighter or darker look in his eyes, something,anything...there's no spark there - no expression worth noting - hey it's a reflection shot, they're a dime a dozen

  8. he looks like a ghost. bit of a spiderman effect goin on on his face. from the shadow of the... *gasp*...graffiti :)

graffiti has become an umbrella term to describe stuff like this and yest. post, but if we are to get a lil more technical, these are actually TAGS. the "artist" writes his tag-name quickly, so it turns out pretty sloppy, and usually the purpose of the work is (to me) getting ones name out there. thousands of people a day will pass their eyes over their work, and when people know your tag name, they'll start to see more of your stuff elsewhere. alternatively, ive known some guys who tag for similar reasons dogs mark property.
and a lot of these tags suck to me. most of them are ugly and not well planned, or with much purpose. there are some which are kinda cool and take talent... for example, a "one liner" requires the artist to write his/her name in one big swoop of the hand, no stopping, not going over the same line twice... the more impressive ones are in bubbleish letters because theyre harder to do.

but i encourage everyone to check out the imagination and creativity that goes into streetart-- greast collection can be found at woostercollective.com -- which i consider in a whole different league than tags. yes its still (technically) defacing property. yes its still illegal unless permission is granted. but these artists cause passers by to consider something new... a concept or idea comes into their heads that wouldnt ordinarily. and personally i think seeing work like Swoon's (http://flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=24560818&size=l)
    or Banksy's (http://www.woostercollective.com/images/2006/06/banksybristol.jpg)
while walking your dog, or going to school, is a blessing instead of a nuisance.
