Now I need ot know how you take these pictures. I have been tempted to take pictures in the subway but I don't know how to do so people do not notice me.
What camera do you use? What advice do you have to offer?
Merry xmas Travis.
Congrats on getting a xmas present from the NY Times. : D

You have a great eye!
It’s apparent you’re a photo editor; you know exactly the right place to crop.
I’m a native New Yorker (last stop in Brooklyn on the L train, then a 20-minute bus ride) for the past 25 years I live on the Upper West Side and use the 1, 2, 3 or b, c train. Nothing compares to the Brooklyn trains for the quintessential New Yorker and commuting experience. Your photos reminded me of when my friends and I were art students, years of a daily commute on the L train, making very quick daily sketches when commuting.
I'm glad I saw the article in the New York Times. When do you turn these photos into a book?

beautiful work. i live in prospect heights. i have a storefront studio on 115 underhill and commute to a studio in chelsea m-f 9-5. an artist "rat". the faces and hearts of ny ers are captured brilliantly in your train photos. thanx for sharing.
Travis - Merry Christmas to you sir! That's great news about the NYTime article - it's funny to finally see what you look like, after all this time, and good for you too to get the recognition your site / project deserves.
I like todays photo - at first glance it's of 2 people sitting on the tube, but then the eye is drawn to the lady's fingers resting on the man's leg - do they know eachother, or is it just an accident? Who knows! It's a great photo though.
Travis -- big congratulations -- the article was terrific: one man's mission to pursue his art in the face of overwhelming odds and the transit strike.
Hey awesome work on the NYTimes article, credit well deserved.
I must be one of the visitors "from as far away as Australia".
Well done!

By the way, is she surreptitiously attempting to steal his coffee by seducing him? Everone is bundled up. New York must be so cold right now. Wish I could feel that. I simply LOVE how the images below capture whats going on above, too. Oh! Congrats on the article, Travis. Remember what I said about who'll be coming knocking....? Congrats.

Hey Travis, Reno just forwarded the article to me. Excellent!
Hope you're doing well. Daniel
Well I suppose I have chime in as well, Travis. I'm a long time "lurking fan" of your work.
It was very nice to read about your project in the NYT; however, I think the NYT piece pales in comparison to your own dedication and accomplishment of putting up a photo every day. Anyone who thinks that's easy, try it.
So, not only did you achieve the daily posting, Travis, the overwhelming majority of photos are top quality, too. It's been a pleasure to have your blog in my daily rotation.
Merry Christmas Travis :-)
Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas Travis!
Love the photo. Love his fatigue.

Beautiful phoot, like how he's napping with a cup of tea in his hand. Merry Christmas!
Wow Travis, that is an awesome accomplishment - especially the NY Times. Congratulations and have a great holiday!
