5 Train ~ Union Station ~ 9:20am

Well this is the kind of scene you only catch if you ride the train every day. So there you are minding your own business when this guy decides to lay down a few tracks during your morning commute. And believe me it wasn't easy listening. Sounded more like he was rapping from the bottom of a barrel. It was a real showstopper. How are you gonna read the same old headlines when this guy is shaking and bakin'? I mean it wasn't like he was lost on the street. He was dressed to the nines. Why sport one lid, when two is even better.

I wasn't going to have a good angle for this image until we pulled into Union Square and a work friend got on the train right next to this guy. As usual when you jump on a train you don't usually see what's happening on the train until it's too late. I used the excuse of knowing some down the train to push my way to the right spot. Thanks Mike.

As one fellow commuter got off the train she looked over her shoulder at me and whisperd "title that Crazy!"

  1. I first thought he was about to take a bite out of his gear, but then I noticed the two bowler hats and figured he was just yawning, but then as I read your description I finally understood the situation.

  2. Yeah, why not share your gift with everybody on the train. Before reading your text I wondered what kind of hat the gent was wearing - what's the deal with two ? It looks like you are the only one paying any attention to him - in Columbus everybody would be watching him; hell maybe they would throw him off the bus (no trains or subways), but that would depend on how good he was. Like the lady said - crazy.

  3. I love ny.

  4. Amazing. He's rapping and laying down tracks and the guy in the do-rag is so zoned out he looks like he's almost asleep. It's amazing how everyone seems to be in their own "bubble".

  5. That picture is great. I love what that lady said to you.

  6. Thats something I would love to experience myself. I would love to understand someone like that. Someone who has the guts to 'lay down a few tracks' in the company of so many morning commuters!

You really have a way of giving us a feel for what the subway is like!

  7. I have to say, I've seen this guy do this a couple of times now on the F. What he lacks in any semblance of musical ability, he more than makes up for in pure volume. Except, when I saw him, I thought he was holding his tape recorder as a make-belief mic to yell into, kinda like playing air guitar. I didn't really think he was recording himself. Surely, not even he would ever be able to listen to it.
