Grand Central exit ~ 9:35am

Trivia. The Subway platforms below ground at 42nd and Lex. are called Grand Central Station. The commuter trains upstairs are part of the railway system and so for them their stop is called Grand Central Terminal. I know, not very exciting. Ok how about this? The mural painted on the ceiling in the Grand Central main hall was painted reversed. The original painter was referring to his map of the constellations while it was on the ground and so transposed all the stars backwards. It was not noticed until around the time the station was opened and a passenger that was an astronomer pointed it out.

Seen here are commuters from both trains exiting out onto Lexington Ave at 43rd st. Back out into the sunshine.

  1. I really love the atmosphere. People seems to hurry for something... maybe some fresh air, though in NYC, the idea of fresh air might be arguable ;)

I really like the contrast between dark and colorful. Nice shot.

  2. its nice to see a pic is made from the inside towards the outside.
I like the light. Almost claire obscure. The silhouets of the persons going outside,
you see the women.. not by face but somehow you know what they are like.
The yellow cab is telling where you are: NY. Also the big guy in red on the right:
    selling the new york post?

  3. Almost there ... Ah freedom!

  4. Oh, my goodness...the light here is so gorgeous. I love how you've caputred so much detail in the shadow area, even with the strong silhouettes. Really nice work, Travis.

  5. Graybar Passage, I think. One of the only un-airconditioned parts of the terminal.

  6. Love it
