Jay street one more time. Well maybe not the last time. Finally finished with jury duty today so I'll no longer be disembarking at this station. Back to Grand Central tomorrow.

I love the fact that without people it looks like something quite inhuman, a cage, the stairs going dooowwwnn, and the turnstile almost looks like a torture system!
I agree - strangely devoid of human form. And all that crazy gum on the floor. Wouldn't gum removal be a good community service project for those working off bad behavior? There's a rural graveyard near here with a turnstyle...out in the middle of nowhere! This type of turnstyle scared the heck outta me when I was a kid.
I can't help thinking about London in relation to this picture as it feels rather sinister without any humanity in the picture. it feels like hoding cells and yes some sort of bizarre torture chamber. Is it the jury duty and the subsequent thoughts of incarceration that is weighing upon your subconscious. You are free but sentenced to a continued suffering on the subway. How noble for you to seek meaning and beauty in this place... the human spirit is a tenacious beast.
I agree, I really think that the NYC subway system is very intimidating looking. I have only been on it once, but being on it and seeing these pictures really makes you think about how much of a prison this looks like to someone who doesn't take it every day. The TTC is a much more "alive" looking subway system, but then again that could be because of age differences.
