  1. love the composition in this shot. keep it up travis!

  2. I love shots like this, where there is far more left to the imagination.

Wondefful emptiness, with just a little bit of intrigue in the distance and in the corners.

  3. Oh come on, youve got to be kidding. You think that this is a "great capture" Mr Ruse. It's soooo boring, the light and the composition sucks, couldn't you at least use one of them star filters! This whole subway thing is getting on my nerves, why can't you go and shoot some waterfalls or sunsets...at least a cute kitten or puppy! Capture smapture! I think your blog needs a little more sex and celebrity gossip!

  4. My only gripes about this one are the composition and that "half of a guy" that is showing up at the left. The composition doesn't attract me because even though the sign with the name of the station is somewhat centered in the frame, the columns seem to unbalance the picture to the right as they appear much closer together there.

  5. Hey Doris...this a photoblog about subways. Not 'People magazine'!

  6. .....nice try Doris. If you don't care for the light (it's a subway) and the composition think of it as a image based ethnography....recording the pulse of daily life as it happens, focusing on a particular physical location in New York culture. The photography is the means to an end in this case, and not the end.

Many people view this blog who are not photographers, and thus someone can be satisfied with the subject content without being aware of the value. The photo has value beyond it's technical skill.

If you're looking for cute puppies you might check out my site, but honestly it's cute hogs today.

I think I've mentioned my fascination with all that white tile. It somewhat reminds me of an old hospital, but for the life of me I can't image how many man hours it took to install it all.

  7. Doris,

If you don't like it: LEAVE. (I can't say it any simpler than that.) LEAVE because it's NOT going to change; love and respect the subways.

Thank you, and have a great day.

Now, regarding this picture, it's alright. Not excellent, not horrible, just alright. Why I don't like it is maybe you've done the right thing and captured the station UNabandoned, but I just don't like that person on the very left hand side (barely visible); sticks out too much and detracts you away from the true meaning of the image. Other than that, I like how you captured the closing doors.
