Please stay tuned for news of the proposed Subway Photo Ban. It is expected that the MTA will be voting on the resolution at their May meeting, Wednesday 25 at 9:30am. We are organizing a press release in the hopes that we can fill the meeting room with citizens concerned with the loss of their first amendment rights underground.
In the meantime the train rumbles on, unabated....
I can't tell you how upsetting I find this proposed ban. While I've moved overseas from my native New York I still keep a close eye on developments back home. I can well understand people's security concerns, but this is taking things waaay too far and it's incredibly short sighted. Since I can't be there I keep all my fingers crossed. I fear we're on a very slippery slope.

gawd i've spent so many miserable commutes crammed between a bunch of tired bodies utterly ignoring each other... this really captures the feeling!
When I think about all of the great photographers throughout history (or at least the history of subways) who have made it there subject, it really disturbs me there might be a ban like that. I'd be rigging up a button hole style camera if I were you.
This is an amazing capture of a convergence of very human moments. I look at it and immediately start to wonder about the stories behind the faces. It's a really masterful street photo.
